Does this just break your heart?

Monday night, I rode my bicycle around the neighborhood, with Mars on a leash running along side me, she must have been watching a squirrel or something and not where she was running, because she ran her back leg down into a storm grate and I couldn't stop fast enough to help her - she had to yank her leg out of the grate, which ripped the skin all the way across her leg. Pretty gruesome - you could see all the connective tissues and stuff through the tear in the skin layers. I laid her down on the kitchen floor to swab the iodine over the wound, I butterflied the skin together with medical tape (it wasn't bleeding too much), then used gauze to wrap firmly around the leg to keep everything in place and let it breathe a bit. I wrapped an ace bandage around the whole thing to provide some padding and more support and protection, clipping the little metal holders around it.

So I come home from work yesterday and the little scamp has worked around her first cone and taken off those metals clips (which have disappeared completely), licking it to a nice soggy gauze wrap by the time I got home. The taping had remained, so the skin was still held together nicely and she may have cleared it out even better than I did. So I rewrapped it after another swabbing of iodine and duct-taped the ace bandage this time, since I haven't the little clips anymore. Now she's got a bigger cone on, she's had a shot of penicillin and is taking antibiotics for the next few days...
